Local Governments often have unique needs that require customized solutions.  CPLG offers a wide array of individually-designed services for elected bodies, management teams, departments, and community groups.

We work with clients based on your unique goals, resources, and capacity – drawing on our specialized expertise in public leadership.

Your specific needs are central to what we do, which is why we offer a range of ways you can engage with us:

• Invite a School of Government faculty member to give a presentation to or facilitate a discussion for your organization or group on a particular topic.
• Co-create learning objectives with us and share in the responsibilities of designing and executing the work.
• Create your own process or event using our online resources.

Community Collaborations

CPLG assists governments, nonprofits, businesses, faith-based organizations, and philanthropies in recognizing shared values and concerns related to vital community issues and acting as partners to solve public problems by creating plans of action that together build public value.

Executive Coaching

In providing coaching services to clients, coaches enter into an interactive, inquiry-based relationship focused on tapping into the client’s own knowledge, wisdom and creativity to move them forward in addressing any aspect of their life in which they desire a change.

Facilitation of Retreats

CPLG helps the leaders of cities, counties, and other groups to conduct board retreats.

Public Dispute Resolution

Public dispute resolution draws on the skills of negotiation, mediation, and facilitation to address issues that involve a neighborhood or citizens’ group, a town or city, a county, or statewide policies. Assistance is available for city/city and city/county conflicts, or matters involving state agencies and local government.

Strategic Planning

Strategic leadership provides clear priorities to guide your organization, helps you to allocate resources to pursue those priorities, and provides a means to assess your progress toward implementation and results. CPLG can guide participations through the Development of a strategic vision, long and short-term work plans, or budget priorities.

Best Practices in Community and Economic Development

The School of Government’s CED program conducts ongoing research into effective best practices in economic and community development in North Carolina. The purpose of this research is to inform local officials about what development practices are working in North Carolina and to highlight the principles that are applicable across communities.
