Advanced Supervisory Practices

Are you a supervisor who is struggling to get your team to:

  • Come together and work cooperatively to reach shared goals?
  • Communicate clearly with each other and feel invested in the team?
  • Appreciate differences among team members and leverage those differences to solve problems and create more positive outcomes?

This course is for experienced public sector supervisors who are ready to take their skills, and their teams, to the next level.

Building on the Fundamental Supervisory Practices (FSP) course, the Advanced course reinforces key skills for successful one-on-one supervisory interactions and explores how to use these and other emotional intelligence skills in a team setting. Participants will enhance their skills in building effective relationships and leading high performing teams.  The course builds on TILT knowledge, which was first learned in FSP, and teaches participants how to use TILT with teams.  The course also offers participants the opportunity to assess and develop their emotional intelligence via the EQi assessment tool. Emotional intelligence skills are critical to effectively resolving conflict, solving problems, and building resilience in yourself and your teams.

Assessments: Participants will take the EQ-i 2.0® assessment as part of this course. The TILT 365® assessment is also a part of this course. If you have not taken TILT, you will need to complete a TILT assessment and TILT video review prior to the first day of class.

What You’ll Learn

  • A greater understanding of your own emotional intelligence strengths and development opportunities and skills to build emotional intelligence
  • How to expand from using skills in a one-on-one situation to using these skills to manage team performance
  • A model for problem-solving and a group problem-solving process
  • Skills for managing conflict among individuals and teams
